Prog Rock to a Disco Beat...

This week i was searching for prog rock bands that blended disco beats into their compositions... Of course it was such a common practice in the late 70's when lots of groups were trying to capture a younger audience... So, this selection is turning around that style: "discoprog", disco-rock or cosmic-prog that could sometimes be labeled as DISCO.

NORMANDIE JAZZ !!!

HOT NORMANDIE is a double LP from '86 which includes twenty four Jazz bands from ROUEN, LE HAVRE, DIEPPE, EVREUX... The first record is swing, be-bop, hard-bop oriented, and the second is more fusiony and pretty much more interesting indeed. We have selected 1 track from the first rec, and 5 others from the second.

LITHA JAZZ QUARTET "bolivia"
A nice version of the Cedar Walton classic, this is the track that opens the first lp. Listen!


Joël DROUIN QUINTET "basse partout"
 "basse partout" is from their own composition, the quintet was formed in 1981, they have recorded 3 albums.


EVREUX EXPERYENZ "run for cover"
Another funky gem here, with a cover version of a Marcus Miller's track. This big band is from Evreux and liked to play funk and jazz-rock... Listen!


ASSOUE "julia"
This is my favorite i think... "Julia" is a cool deep track with some afro-latin influences. If you're down with the Azymuth sound, then you're gonna like it and whistle the theme all day!
